AuthorSupport.com’s File Ownership Policy

Once a project is completed ALL working files remain the property of AuthorSupport.com. Working files are defined as editable files. Photoshop layered files, Illustrator files, InDesign files and Quark Files are all considered working files.

If you require these file types please discuss this with us up front. Possession of these types of files means a potential loss of revenue should there be future revisions or iterations of the work.

Here are the types of files you will own upon completion of project:

  • Adobe Acrobat PDF at Print Resolution.
  • JPG files of the final effort (Both High and Low)
  • EPS files for vector work (Logos and other spot graphics)

AuthorSupport.com’s 50% Payment Policy

We require 50% of the estimated project cost up front prior to scheduling your project in. This is beneficial to both of us. You can invest a portion of your budget to get a feel for how we work and we will have a partial payment to protect our investment of time.

50% also represents our “kill fee“. A kill fee is the monies paid to cover the work completed when either party needs to stop production. As stated above 50% protects our investment of time. We will refund the monies paid at a proportional amount to the work completed.

Possible reasons to abandon a project and incur the kill fee…

  • After multiple mock-ups you do not like our work.
  • After multiple mock-ups we do not feel we can capture your vision.
  • Your financial stresses dictate you putting the project on hold.
  • The market has changed and you do not feel your project is relevant any longer.

Subject Matter Refusal Policy

AuthorSupport.com reserves the right to reject any project for any reason. We scrutinize projects on the basis of our subjective standards… in essence, if we are not comfortable with the spirit and nature of the project we will refund your money (if no work has been completed) and notify you of our decision via email.

CASE STUDY ONE:

John Doe tells us that his book, “Desert Dawn” is about finding love and acceptance in a small town full of intrigue. We accept the project and bill Mr. Doe for half of the estimated cost. A week later one of our typesetters flags that this is an “adult” book about erotic encounters! Unfortunately, we were a third of the way through before discovering Mr. Doe’s omission. We will refund a portion of the monies and stop production immediately.

CASE STUDY TWO:

Amy Johnson tells us that her book, “Overcoming the Odds” is a collection of helpful suggestions for getting past difficult situations. We accept the project and bill Ms. Johnson for half of the estimated cost. A week and a half later one of our typesetters flags that this book is really ten ways to make contact with your spirit guide. We were half of the way through before discovering Ms. Johnson’s omission. Because we were half way done and had billed for half upfront we will not refund any of the monies and stop production immediately.

Evaluating Projects Based on Spiritual Content

Weekly, AuthorSupport.com passes up projects that are spiritual in nature. As Christians in the publishing arena we feel strongly about not wanting to be associated with projects that bring reproach to the name of Christ. Our quote request form is designed to give us enough information to evaluate a project. Occasionally we need to ask some specific questions. This article was written to help you evaluate your project before submitting.

Even among “Christian” circles there are a host of false teachings that seem to be recirculated over and over again. If you are a Christian please evaluate your project based on the following statement…

The true gospel is a call to self-denial, not self-fulfillment. The gospel is a message about redemption, not about life’s purpose. The gospel according to Scripture deals with God’s law, His grace, human depravity, redemption from sin, justification, sanctification, holiness, the nature of saving faith, and the lordship of Christ. The true gospel’s most essential features are the cross of Christ and the truth of the resurrection.

Here is a short list of book genres that will be automatically rejected….

  • Christian Mysticism (Contemplative Prayer, Lectio Divina, Breath Prayers, etc.)
  • Meditation Practices (TM, Guided Visualizations, Channeling, Yoga)
  • Prosperity Gospel (”Name it and claim it”, “Jesus wants you to be successful”)
  • Non-Christian Religious Material (Mormonism, Islam, Budhism, Hinduism, etc.)
  • Heretical Christian Material (Oneness Pentecostalism, Baptismal Regeneration, Universalism, etc.)
